When Alyssa's father life was taken as a result of an accident, she was fortunate to find a creative outlet to help her heal. He remains with her in everything she does, which is why she is so proud to dedicate donni charm in his honor. It has been no small battle to cope with this devastation, but donni charm has allowed her to inspire others who have experienced loss by duplicating the positive healing process.
Alyssa and her mother have always loved working on various fashion projects together and in light of the tragedy, they began trying their hands at scarves. Naming their project was the easiest yet most heartfelt step of the process; those close to her father affectionately called him “Donny,” and as her mother later pointed out, she was his charm… thus, “donni charm” was created. The scarves are wrapped around her like the arms of his hug, and hang close to her heart where he will always remain.
Having lived in the city for three years as NYU students, Susie Levitt and Katie Shea were oh-so-familiar with the pain caused by pointy pumps and strappy stilettos. Their love/hate relationship with these fashion icons wasn’t helped by the fact that these petite powerhouses both stand no taller than 5’2”.
Despite their suffering, they simply were unwilling to (totally) give up on these beloved wardrobe staples. One too many encounters with shoeless socialites and barefooted babes led to their AH HA moment... CitySlips and AfterSoles were born. These entrepreneurial sole-sisters came up with a concept and design that allowed women to carry back-up ballet flats comfortably, compactly, and conveniently. They roll up and into your purse they go. For a night out with the girls, on the way to work, or even at your wedding! They’re confident that all of you well-heeded women on-the-go will enjoy these fabulous sole savers.
Urban Aid™ came about one evening at a "girl's night" dinner. While discussing personal aspects of our lives, someone said "wouldn't it be great if there were some type of overnight kit" for those unexpected sleepovers or all niters.
From that point, the possibilities of creating fun, useful and edgy gift products for women was born. Of course it wasn't that simple but that is the short of it!
The Urban Aid™ name comes from the fact that we could all use a little help from time to time when dealing with our modern lives. Our products are developed to "aid" modern, strong and downright rock'n women by taking care of life's little surprises and/or adventures! The Period Pail was a first on our list… I think we have all had that surprising "accident"!
Our philosophy is the less time spent on the little stuff the more time to live our lives to the fullest.
Kits are created from our real life experiences and those of close friends. The individual items are what we actually use in a particular situation. (Your experiences may be different.) Our kits are developed as life affects us, so you never know what may be next.
