Help For Today...Hope For Tomorrow

20 August 2010 Published by Lauren

Yesterday, August 20 2010 was the 13th Annual Alzheimer’s Charity Golf Tournament. Three’s Company was one of the proud sponsors of this event. We provided a prize for the women’s longest drive as well as the eco-friendly gift bags that all players and volunteers received.

Both my parents are on the committee and put a lot of time and hard work into this event along with many other people. Tom Caldwell, from Caldwell Securities (http://www.caldwellsecurities.com) was the lead sponsor of the event. He made a wonderful speech and we are all very grateful for their generous donation.
As well, the wonderful Paul Godfrey was the Emcee. He is best known for being the head of the Toronto Blue Jays, CEO of the National Post and the new chair of OLG (Ontario Lottery and Gamin Corporation). And for all of you fashion lovers out there, yes he is the father of the talented designer Jay Godfrey (http://www.jaygodfrey.com/ or @jay_godfrey). Mr. Godfrey made a wonderfully moving speech about how Alzheimer’s has affected his life, which many of us related to. We greatly appreciated him taking the time out of his busy day to make his speech and start of the auction. We hope to see him again next year.

Every person has a different cause they fight for. For our family it’s Alzheimer’s. Unfortunately, my grandmother has it and it is a terrible disease that there is no cure for. It not only affects the person with the disease but everyone around them. It was our pleasure to take part in this charity event, which was sold out and raised over $50,000 for research. (More than double of what has been raised in any other year.)

If you would like to take part in next years charity event or would just like to donate to the Alzheimer’s Society of York Region please visit their website (http://www.alzheimer-york.com)

Thank you to everyone who took part in helping raise money for research and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year.
